At Tailored Flooring we understand that as much as you can attempt to care for your carpets on a day to day basis, accidents do happen and everyday wear is inevitable. To help you out we have put together a handy list with our top tips for maintaining carpets in your home.
- Always ensure that you are vacuuming the carpet regularly; this will avoid dirt collecting and embedding itself in the pile. This will ensure the life of your carpet is extended and it’s appearance is maintained.
- If you have the space too, move your furniture around occasionally to make sure the carpet is getting worn evenly. This will not only ensure your carpet will look good for longer, but will give your room a refreshing lift.
-To maintain a consistent appearance of your carpet, try and protect it from lengthy periods of direct sunlight with the addition of blinds or curtains.
-Does your carpet run directly to an external door? Place a mat down to make sure grit and dirt isn’t spread throughout the house from the outside, however ensure the mat is cleaned regularly to stop soiling from spreading.
-Taking outside shoes off when entering your house is something to get used to doing. This is because shoes such as trainers have a lot of grip and this can destroy the fibres in the pile.
-Always clean up spillages straight away; the longer it is left unattended the harder it will be to remove.
-Make sure with food spillages that you remove any solid matter gently with a dull object beforehand, then blot with a clean and damp white cloth.
-Remember not to over soak the stain or rub the pile surface as this will roughen and untwist the pile.
-To stop a stain from spreading it’s always a good idea to work from the outside, inwards.
